Coquimbo and the Elqui Valley are home to some of the most important astronomical
observatories in the world. With more than 300 clear nights a year, this place in the north of
Chile has positioned itself as a unique destination for astro-tourism lovers, and is considered
the World Capital of Astronomy.
The Coquimbo Region and the Elqui Valley concentrate nearly 50% of the national astrotourism offer. It has 14 tourist observatories and 5 scientists observatories, who settled in this
corner of the country for its excellent weather conditions, the low humidity in the atmosphere
and the absence of cloud cover, making it one of the purest places on the planet!
